About the L.A. Parrot Head Club

The L.A. Parrot Heads are a group of people in lower Alabama who like to "Party with a Purpose". We get together and have fun, and we also like to give back to the community with donations, fundraisers and more.

The Lower Alabama Parrot Head Club is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to assist in community outreach programs and give members a means of social interaction and meeting people interested in Jimmy Buffett’s music & tropical spirit.

We’re more than just a bunch of party people. We party with a purpose! Our chapter began in 2004 and has been instrumental in allowing us to give back to our local community, as well as other communities-in-need, by volunteering, raising money and making donations.

So how did we get the name “parrot head” you may ask. The term was coined in 1985 at a Jimmy Buffett concert at the Timberwolf Amphitheater in Cincinnati, OH. At the show, Jimmy commented about everyone wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats. Timothy B. Schmit, then a member of the Coral Reefer Band, coined the term “Parrot Head” to describe each of those fans.

The first ‘Parrothead’ club was started by Scott Nickerson in Atlanta in 1989 and has grown into a network of over 200 clubs around the U.S., plus international clubs based in Canada and Australia. The purpose of the organization is to promote the international network of Parrot Head Chapters as a humanitarian group sharing information and social activities for mutual benefit. The organization engages in activities that are charitable, educational and that promote the general welfare of the community. Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc. is a Not-For-Profit Corporation, whose purpose is to assist in community and environmental concerns and provide a variety of social activities for people who are interested in the music of Jimmy Buffett and the tropical lifestyle he personifies.

The L.A. Parrot Heads meet monthly. This is a time for our members to learn about up-coming opportunities as well as to PHlock together
